The Road Less Travelled - Artists' Lives

As we approach the final stages of "The Road Less Travelled - Artists' Lives Travelled," I'm excited to share a glimpse into the heart of this captivating project. In collaboration with the Cork Arts Council, we've embarked on a journey that celebrates the beauty, wisdom, and creativity found in the golden years.

This project isn't just about capturing photographs; it's about honoring the stories and experiences of individuals aged 55 and older who embody a passion for art. From the rural landscapes of West Cork to the bustling communities of East Cork, we've sought out individuals whose lives and artistic endeavors reflect the richness of our county's cultural heritage.

Through intimate conversations and shared moments, we've captured the essence of each participant, weaving together a tapestry of creativity and resilience that speaks to the soul of County Cork. Each portrait is a testament to the unique journey that brought them to this moment, a reflection of the beauty that comes with age and experience.

While the project is not yet ready for public exhibition, we're hard at work putting the finishing touches in place. In the coming months, we'll carefully curate the portraits and stories we've collected, ensuring that each one is a powerful representation of the artistic talent that thrives within our community.

Welcome to the ongoing journey of “Letters Through Time”!

As we speak, individuals over 75 are actively engaged in writing heartfelt letters to their 16-year-old selves. Each letter is a testament to a lifetime of experiences, wisdom, and cherished memories.

I will capture these moments in timeless black-and-white portraits, along with photographs of each participant’s hands. These images will serve as visual reflections of the depth and richness of each individual’s story.

The project is more than just photographs and letters; it’s a celebration of life, resilience, and the connections that bind us together. With each participant’s contribution, I am weaving a tapestry of stories that resonate across generations.

“Letters Through Time” will culminate in December 2024, but its impact will endure far beyond. Through our triptychs and the stories they tell, we hope to inspire, connect, and celebrate the beauty of the human experience.
