🌿 2025 Wedding Flower Trends (Expert Insights from Flicky)
💬 Q: What are the biggest floral trends for weddings in 2025?
🗣 Flicky: I am definitely hearing couples mention a few distinctive style guides this season. Many are opting for an elegant, contemporary vibe with whimsical clouds of gypsophila (aka babies breath) either as a standalone ingredient or paired with perfectly white, statement blooms such as peonies, hydrangea or roses. Another style, which we saw last year, and are seeing even more this year is a pretty sugar pastel palette of summer flowers; think pale blues, pinks, lilacs, lemons and whites. These are arranged loosely and full of movement, some flowers seem to jump out of arrangements and even dance around!!
💬 Q: Are there any unique floral styles becoming more popular?
🗣 Flicky: Monoflower bouquets, and simpler bouquets are definitely on the rise. We just did an exquisite wedding where the bride and bridesmaids carried bunches of long-stemmed paperwhite narcissi (they hold a beautiful, romantic, hidden meaning!), simply tied with white silk ribbon. It was so elegant and looked perfect with their entire styling. Incorporating more fruit and veg, and unusual textural elements into arrangements and tablescapes is setting up to be much bigger, it’s (we’ve!!) been sneaking in a little over the past while, but I think (looking at what some designers we follow abroad are doing) it’s going to really catch on much more here too soon.
💬 Q: How do flowers impact the overall wedding aesthetic?
🗣 Flicky: Flowers play so many big roles in a wedding! They are the linking styling aspect between all the individual areas of your wedding, visually joining up everything from your invitations, outfits, venues and ceremony. They also, for many, have a huge emotional significance – the flowers create “a feeling” or mood. For some, it creates romance, for others might be a more contemporary, statement-type vibe. The flowers can speak volumes about a couple’s personality. This is something I personally really love helping couples with, creating something completely bespoke to match them!
💐 Seasonal Wedding Flowers in Ireland: What’s in Bloom?
💬 Q: Why should couples choose seasonal flowers for their wedding?
🗣 Flicky: Using seasonal flowers is the best way to ensure that you not only have the best available produce but also that the produce you are choosing has the least environmental impact. We all need to think about our flowers in the way that we think about our food – locally grown, organic, in season.
💬 Q: What are some of the best flowers for each season in Ireland?
🗣 Flicky:
✔ Early Spring (March to mid-April): hellebore, narcissi, flowering branches…
✔ Late Spring (mid-April through May): tulips, anemones, ranunculus
✔ Early Summer (June to July): roses, peonies, foxgloves…
✔ Summer (July): sweet peas, cosmos, sunflowers
✔ Late Summer (August): dahlias, zinnias, asters
✔ Autumn: autumn foliage, chrysanthemums, berries…
✔ Winter: amaryllis, eucalyptus, mosses, branches
💬 Q: How can couples incorporate Irish wildflowers or local florals into their wedding?
🗣 Flicky: Seek out a floral designer or local farmer/florist who specializes in growing, sourcing and designing with locally grown and responsibly foraged flowers and foliage. They will help you choose the best ingredients to incorporate into your own designs, taking into consideration your style and the mood you want to create for your wedding day. The Flower Farmers Of Ireland is a fantastic group with growers and florists right across the country, you can find among them someone close to your wedding venue who can supply locally grown, seasonal flowers.
💡 Floral Styling Tips: Bouquets, Installations & Table Decor
💬 Q: What advice do you have for couples choosing their bouquet style?
🗣 Flicky: Your bouquet should reflect your personality but also compliment you and your dress. I usually meet with most of my brides, so I can gauge what size their bouquet should be, and looking at their dress usually guides me in designing the bouquet shape and what finish it should have. I consider the bridal bouquet as being a key accessory, much like a piece of jewellery!
💬 Q: What are some creative ways to use flowers beyond bouquets?
🗣 Flicky:
✔ For wearables (beyond a boho crown) try an intricate floral tiara.
✔ Incorporate flowering plants or dramatic leafy trees into designs
✔ Flower garden tablescapes, as in creating a growing garden on that table!
✔ Flower-adorned wedding cakes
💬 Q: What are some common mistakes couples make when choosing wedding flowers?
🗣 Flicky: I’m not sure I can attribute the first “mistake” to the couples themselves as I know full well how difficult it can be to easily or readily find budgeting guidelines for wedding flowers! I have seen some unrealistic budgets at times, but I personally do not hide my prices and I try to be as transparent as possible about costs so that couples can figure out what is possible for them and within their budget. My brochure and price guide are on my website for anyone to see!
The one thing I sometimes alert people to are very distinctive trends, especially ones that are fleeting. Most people want their photos to remain timeless, full of memories that they love. A very distinctive trend can later look dated or “of an era” and it’s certainly worth considering.
📸 Real Wedding Feature: A Stunning Floral Collaboration
Lauren and Will! Such a gorgeous, sweet couple.
Romance was at the heart of their wedding, and also subtle elegance. So the aim of the flowers was to reflect this.
The soft pink and white palette was dramatised with the addition of deep burgundy chocolate cosmos flowers, and a few deep toned David Austin roses. We also added some unripe blackberries, a seasonal nod to the local landscape and a little nostalgia too.
Lauren and Will are based abroad so all our consultations took place via emails and phone calls. Their bridesmaids’ gowns were a neutral green shade, so this was a big consideration when selecting the colours, we didn’t want anything too understated, but wanted an elegant and timeless look and feel. Lauren and I exchanged a lot of emails and photos to pin down the eventual look. It was a delight to see Anna on the wedding day to capture Lauren and my design collaboration! Look at those photos!!
📌 Final Thoughts: Bringing Your Floral Vision to Life
